Summary

New World is a spritsail barge, built at Milton in 1877. She is noted as derelict in 1946, and her remains form part of a group of three barges lying bow to stern in the intertidal zone at Harty. Her remains were still visible and in fair condition in 1986.

Method of Fix: Aerial Photograph Interpretation Photograph Number: KCC 1961 Line 9: 6562 Registration No. ROCHSTER 76624 One of three barges lying bow to stern, end on to the shore, across the intertidal area. They are buried in the mud. On the 1967 survey (KCC 1967 Line 29:1234) this one is not double-ended and divisions/transverse mebers can be seen in the hold. This site has been identified as New World built at Milton in 1877. She was owned successively by J B White, White and the War Department. She is noted as derelict in 1946. Her remains were reported visible in 1986. (1). Upper part of wood and iron barge sticking out of the mud, even the deck timbers are preserved. Fair condition (2)
