[TQ 68876362 ] Roman Burials found A.D.1926 [NAT] (1) A Roman burial at Halling. Some 30 yards S.W. of the south- westernmost corner of Clement's Farm buildings, at a depth of 4' the remains of five skeletons, including one child, and pottery were found in May, 1926. A bowl of fumed grey-black ware in imitation of a samian form, a flask of hard buff-brown clay, twice banded on the shoulder with a cream slip, and two sherds of coarse gritty red clay, one of which was all that was saved of a pot stated by the workmen of the British Portland Cement Co to be "about three feet across" and broken on removal. The bones and pottery were identified by Sir Arthur Keith, F.R.S. [See AO/59/82/6] (2-3) The site is a disused chalk-pit. No further information. (4)
