Summary

The fragment of an island at the mouth of the Wantsum Channel is thought to have been the site of a former medieval settlement. The area is known as 'Coldharbour' which is known in Old English as a shelter for travellers in bad weather. It has also been suggested that this may have been a fishing hamlet. No further information about this settlement is known.

At the north mouth of the Wantsum (TR 253693) is the eroded fragment of a former island, that may have been the site of medieval settlement, perhaps a fishing hamlet (the name 'Coldharbour' is Old English: a shelter for travellers in bad weather) (1). Photographs (2-4).
