Vertical Datum: LAT Buoyage: CINC Vessel, built 1874, sank following collision with anchored British collier ROSA MARY in poor visibility. Vessel, en-route Rotterdam to New York, sank in 20 mins with large loss of life. Owned at time of loss by Nederlandsch - Amerikaansche Stoomv. Maats.(2) Lies approximately 4m ESE from Admiralty Pierhead, Dover. (3) 01-MAR-1961 Depth 62ft position 51 04 55N, 001 24 41E 07-NOV-1961 Depth 68 in general depth 93 ft, scour 95ft. 27-OCT-1977 in 51 04 55N, 001 24 41E Depth 21.5 in general depth 28m, no scour, height 6.9m, length 125m. lying 080/260deg. 21-OCT-1982 Dived on - wreck fairly intact, had single wooden mast of very large diameter. Thought possibly to be Dutch vessel ROTTERDAM which sank pre-1900, but not able to confirm. 22-AUG-1983 Confirmed as wreck of W A SCHOLTEN. 06-SEP-1983 Dived on several occasions, ship's china, marked N.A.S.M. Rotterdam, recovered. Wreck lies approximately along tide with bows to NE. No superstructure stands above collapsed wheelhouse, engines and boiler. Evidence of collision. Bows smashed in. 03-OCT-1983 Application has been made in America to obtain title to this wreck. Commercial in confidence requested.
