The 1st edition OS map (1865-72) shows an 'Old Battery : remains of' on the cliffs above Ness Point. There is no further information about this but it has been suggested that it could be the site of a Napoleonic-era gun battery and perhaps related to the Guard House (TR 34 SE 346) (1)
It is known (from a list of armament for 1793 – 1815, the Napoleonic period) that 3 x 32-pounder guns were dispatched to St Margaret's Bay during the Napoleonic Wars. It is not known exactly where these were placed but they could have been palced on this site overlooking Ness Point (which may at one time have been called Battery Point). (2)
