An early medieval, Anglo-Saxon copper alloy circular mount was found in 1994, on the shingle foreshore just North of Deal. It is decorated with Style I anthropomorphic and zoomorphic ornament. The central design of a face resembles those from Class I button brooches, whilst the animal ornament around the edges is transitional to Style II, dating it to c.AD575-600.
