Flint foundations in Moat Rough and crop marks in an adjacent field may represent the former site of Wyke Manor. The Manor was believed to have been demolished long before the reign of Charles II. The Ancient Book of the Decrees of the Town of Fordwich, 1685 (Canterbury Cathedral Archives: CCA-U4/19/1) (4) provides a significant amount of detail about the site and its precise location, based on an ancient manuscript.

Margaret Sparks mentions a reference to a yoke of land at Wic held of the archbishop c.1100, and another to Ivo de Wyke in the twelfth century (1); William Urry additionally refers to a record in Rental A in Canterbury Cathedral Archives : the Roll of Wibert, Prior of Christ Church, Canterbury, 1153 - 67, showing that 'Iuone de Wika' held land 'apud Fordwic' (Urry, W. (1967) Canterbury Under the Angevin Kings. London: The Athlone Press, p. 225).

The Manor is believed to have been linked to Lukedale Manor in the 12th and 13th centuries (TR 25 NW 4). (2)

The remains of buildings at this location are referred to by C.E. Woodruff in his book A History of the Town and Port of Fordwich (Canterbury: Cross and Jackman, 1895, p. 117) (3): here he notes that these remains 'probably mark the site of the "King's tenement of Wykes”'. Woodruff cites as evidence (ibid, pp. 3-4) The Ancient Book of the Decrees of the Town of Fordwich, 1685 (Canterbury Cathedral Archives: CCA-U4/19/1) (4) which provides a significant amount of detail about the site and its precise location 'taken out of an ancient MS.'.
