Summary

Anglo Saxon inhumation cemetry, Crundale Downs,excavation took place between 1861 -1895, unknown number of graves as none were recorded at the time and the original site location is not known.

One of the graves contained a sword with decorated pommel and 2 buckles, another grave containing 15 beads, silver rings, a pin and 2 pendants (1gold, 1silver). Other finds including 8 brooches, beads, pottery vessels and part of a glass vessel. These were part of Mr. Henry Durden’s collection and bequeathed to the British Museum.

A small square headed brooch and a rectangular Style I belt-plate, both dated early 6th Century are in the Canterbury Museum

The probable site lies on the east of Tremworth Down on the north-south Downland ridge, which exceeds OD 150m.
