Part of a substantial Roman ditch was discovered during excavations at Springhead. It was similar to other ditches discovered elsewhere at Springhead and which appear to be associated with Roman roads. It was originally interpreted as relating to a possible annexe to a fort but more recent interpretations of the roman activity at Springhead now make this unlikely. (1)
