During excavations carried out by the Museum of London Archaeology ahead of development at Swanscombe Community School, two large ditches were uncovered. These were located close to and ran parallel with the walls of the Roman enclosure. They were 0.5m deep and the upper fills contained iron working slag. The southern ditch may have had a bank on its northern side. Both appear to have been infilled by the middle of the third century. (1-3)
