Summary

AOC Archaeology carried out a watching brief and recording work following scrub clearance on the eastern side of Ingress Park. The remains of two 19th century brick cottages, were uncovered. (location accurate to the nearest 2m based on available information)

AOC Archaeology carried out a watching brief and recording work following scrub clearance on the eastern side of Ingress Park. The remains of two 19th century brick cottages, which were built side by said using a mix of stock yellow and red bricks (8¾ by 4⅜ by 2¾”), with shallow frogs. The southern cottage appeared to comprise four rooms; three to the west, one to the east. The northern cottage, No 2 Park Cliff Cottages, had some surviving floor surfaces, but a less clear floor plan. The cottages appear to be later than the garden features located close by to them, and they appear to have been
unremarkable, small working-family’s dwellings, though they may have been tied to the estate. (1-2)
