During an archaeological excavation undertaken in 1964 in the area to the south of the Inner Bailey at Dover Castle, formerly occupied by the southern barbican, a shallow garderobe shaft was uncovered. Specifically it was located In the north west corner of the space between the towers, under a turret that survived until the C18th and against one face of the two sided, cut back plinth, was a 4 ft garderobe pit of relatively late construction. The filling contained a consistent group of pottery of late Elizabethan character. (1)
