During an archaeological watching brief undertaken by Canterbury Archaeological Trust on works undertaken within Arthurs Lesser Hall on the southern side of the inner bailey at Dover Castle 1990 a cobbled surface and brick lined drain were uncovered benath the modrn floor level. The works on the shop included the excavation of a construction trench 0.5m wide by 0.5m deep for a new north south partition wall. Within the upper deposits of this trech a partially robbed cobbled surface and brick drain was located. Pottery located from this level dated from 1725-1750. this surface and drain likely relate to an earlier phase of building use, perhaps a stable or a washhouse. A light brown clay was located underlying the surface this had pottery dating from 1650-1700 and traces of a shallow gully within it. (1)
