The Union Workhouse was built on Lower Road in 1836 following the 1834 Poor Law Act and was demolished in 1995 . A resedential development was built on the site. The Workhouse is shown on the 1862-75, 1897-1900 and 1907-23 maps.The first Workhouse in Faversham was located on Church Street. It was demolished at sometime to make way for Brewery buildings.
