A swing bridge is visible on historic maps of Dover in the wall between Granville Dock and the Tidal Harbour in Dovers Western Docks, immediately to the south of the modern bridge. It can be seen on the 1737 plan of the harbour by Foquet as well as the first edition OS map of the town, though it appears to have been moved by the time the second edition had been surveyed.
