At least three cranes are labelled on historic OS plans dating to the end of the 19th and early 20th centuries on ground boardering the Tidal Harbour of Dover. Though their type is unknown, a surviving contemporary example located on Wellington Dock is a Fairburn Type Crane. By the time the Fourth Edition OS was surveyed, the cranes have been removed.
