Summary

The traces of a moat at Moat Farm. Little is thought to remain of the moat except a slight depression to the north west, the shape of the island on all sides but the south and traces of a causeway on the northern side. The farmhouse itself is a Grade II listed building and is timber framed with a brick and tile front. It dates from the 17th century.

Protected Status:Selected Heritage Inventory for Natural England: MOAT FARMHOUSE. The moat survives as a slight earthwork with traces of a causeway to the north.

Capel Moat Farm. About a mile north east of Capel church are traces of moating. (2)
Moat Farm. Complete moat shown (overall dimension 2.25 chains E-W. 2chains N-S approx). Causeways shown N & S sides. (3)
This moat has now gone except for a slight depression to NW but the shape of the island remains on all sides but the south. Traces of a causeway are visible to the north. An Antiquity Model survey has been made. The farmhouse itself is timber framed with a brick and tile front, the brink in Flemish bond. The framing is evident in the north (back) side where it is brick nogged. Probably 17th c. The house is in good condition and in use as a residence. A notice board confirms the nameas Moat Farm. See GP AO/59/10/8. (4)

8/19 The Moat Farmhouse. Grade II. Brick and tile hung elevations masking seventeenth century or earlier framed structure. Two storeys and ridge tile roof, half-hipped to left, hipped to right and brought down as raking lean-to. Vertically panelled door in moulded frame with tiled hood over. 4 sets of square-paned casements to each floor. (8)
