Large detached country house dating to the early 1900s. It first appears on OS 3rd edition (1907-1923). (1)

Sir Winston Churchill lived in the house with his family between 1923 and 1924, while nearby Chartwell was being renovated.

"'Many original features, fireplaces, large cupboards, servants quarters, the 'flower room', the large doors, the sweeping staircase and balustrades, all echo from the days when Sir Winston was there.

'This property has had some other illustrious names attached to it, not least the Astor family and the Streatfields and even Alice Liddell of Lewis Carroll fame." (2)

The house is surrounded by two acres of landscaped gardens.
