The Queenborough Cement Company works were opened near Queenborough Station, by Josiah Hall in 1882. The works developed to have four kilns and an output of 400tons per week. (1) Chalk was supplied from a wharf west of the works which came from the East Kent Chalk Quarry Co. at Sillingham, and Rainham. The works was opperating until at least 1924. From the 1890's it had a narrow gauge works railway. (2) The company became part of the British Portland Cement Manufacturers in 1911, were closed soon afterwards and demolished during the First World War. (1) The works was situated on the east side of Rushenden Road. It consisted, by 1900, of three principal blocks of buildings, all of which have been removed and the site used for modern commercial buildings (3). Site photographs (4-9).
