A malthouse stood on the site in Clover Street in the 2nd half of the !9th century, and is reputed to have been associated with Winch's Brewery (formerly Bests). The site has been cleared and replaced by a building which appears to occupy much of the footprint of the malt house. There is a small section at the base of the western end of the north wall of the current building with some blue headed bricks which may be all that remains of the malt house.
