Site of a white papermill thought to have been developed from a corn mill c1755. The mill was modernised with steam power beating and paper machines in the 1830s. It was bought by the Townsend Hooks in 1854 and enlarged. Burnt down in 1906, it was rebuilt. Current buildings date from the 1930s onwards, part of the post 1906 rebuild having recently [2007] been demolished. There remains a large gantry for the unloading barges.
