Pillbox [Sector 4]. Cassini ref 627530. On the seafront E of Hythe. (1)

The Type 22 pillbox referred to above (Source 1) is located overlooking the seafront at Sandgate and centred at TR 19154 34929. The pillbox is clearly visible on aerial photographs taken in 1942 and has been mapped as part of the South East Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey NMP. The pillbox was subsequently demolished with the site now occupied by modern housing. A ground photograph of this disguised pillbox is visible on the Kent History Forum. (2-3)
