Name:Possible Second World War Type 24 pillbox

Summary

A possible WWII Type 24 pillbox is visible on aerial photographs of 1946 as a structure in the centre of Derville Road, Lydd. The pillbox had been removed by the time of the vertical aerial photographs of 1959. This feature has been mapped from aerial photographs as part of the South East RCZAS NMP project.

The possible WWII pillbox is centred at TR 0821 2132, and measures approximately three metres north to south, and three and a half metres east to west. It appears to be facing the seafront, to the east, and is also located approximately 60m to the east of a small bridge over the Hythe and Dymchurch Light Railway (Monument Number 1357333).

The pillbox appears to have been removed by the time of the vertical aerial photographs of 1959 (1-2).
