A slipway, labelled as Patent Slip, is only visible on the Epoch 1 edition (1877) of historic 1:2500 Ordnance Survey mapping [1], and is located inside the Outer Harbour of Folkestone Harbour (MKE16024). It is no longer visible on any later mapping, including the Epoch 2 (1899) edition [2]. The slipway extends for 115m parallel to the East Pier (MWX43989).
The feature was given a monument polygon during historic mapping enhancement as part of Phase 1 of the South East Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey.
