Two WWII structures of probable military function visible on aerial photography taken in 1942 [1], located in Walmer. The structures lay alongside one another; the W structure was a backwards C-shape open to the W, while the E structure was rectangular. The W structure was visible on aerial photographs taken in 1941 [2] and 1943 [3]. Neither structure was visible on aerial photography taken in 1946 [4]. Both features were absent on Next Perspectives photography taken in 2003 [5].

These features were located atop an area of WWII barbed wire (MWX43649) and 29m W of a double line of WWII beach scaffolding (MWX43629).

An NMR record existed in the general area for a ‘Second World War reinforced concrete pillbox [Sector 6]. North-East of Walmer.’ (1428665) which may have been represented by one of these features. Also recorded by the NMR in this area was a ‘Second World War defended house [Sector 6], at Deal.’ (1428983). These records could not be absolutely be ascribed to the mapped features, so have not been linked to this record.

A transcription of the features recorded from aerial photographs exists within a GIS layer held by this HER.
