WWII type 23 pillbox visible on aerial photography taken in 1946 [1], located in Kingsdown. The feature was rectangular in shape, measured approximately 4.2m x 8m and was located 77m from the high water mark. Next Perspectives photography taken in 2003 [2, 3] showed the feature to be absent.

This site is represented by the National Monuments Record as ‘Second World War reinforced concrete illbox. On coast at Kingsdown.’ (NMR1423891).

A transcription of the feature recorded from aerial photography exists within a GIS layer held by this HER.


John Guy (2014) was sure that the site was in fact the site of a 12-pounder gun emplacement and that until recently there was a visible holdfast.(4)
