WWII type 22 pillbox visible on aerial photography taken in 1945 [1], located in Dover. This hexagonal pillbox measured 4m at its maximum dimensions and was located 11.5m from the high water mark. Next Perspectives photography taken in 2003 [2] showed the feature to be absent.

This site may be represented by the records: ‘Pillbox, at sea front, dover.’ (MKE16969), ‘Western Dock pillbox’ (Mke42063) and ‘Marine Parade pillbox’ (Mke42065). However, these can not be accurately linked with this pillbox, as all three records have the same point location, which is 120m SW of the mapped feature. A pillbox is also recorded by the National Monuments Record (NMR 1417705), but the point is located 130m SW of the mapped feature. The site also may be represented by ‘Pillbox at sea front, dover.’ (MKE16968), ‘Marine Parade pillbox’ (Mke42066) and (NMR 1417704) but the points for these records lay 160m NE of the mapped location.

A transcription of the feature recorded from aerial photography exists within a GIS layer held by this HER.
