Two WWII bomb craters visible on aerial photography taken in 1941 and 1942 [1, 2], located in Dover. The left crater was not visible on aerial photography taken in 1941 [3] and was instead an area of gardens, or possibly allotments; however the right crater was visible in its final form on this photography. The left crater may represent a small mooring for a barrage balloon. The 1942 aerial photography suggests a large bomb crater, but 1945 photography demonstrates a more defined large cut feature with possible internal structures. Both have been mapped for clarity of interpretation – the crater as a large extent of area, and the possible barrage balloon as a large cut feature with three internal extent of area polygons which represent the potential structures. Next Perspectives photography taken in 2007 [4] shows the left feature to have been overlaid with a domestic building and the right feature to have been levelled, but preserved as scrubland.

A transcription of the features recorded from aerial photography exists within a GIS layer held by this HER.
