Summary

WWII earthwork of unknown function visible in 1946, but not in 1941 or 1942, located near St Margaret’s at Cliffe. The site was comprised of one ditch with a backing bank located 20m from the cliff edge. The site was no longer visible in 1950 and by 2007 the cliff top had eroded.

WWII earthwork of unknown function visible on aerial photography taken in 1946 [1, 2], but not in 1941 or 1942 [3, 4], located near St Margaret’s at Cliffe. The site was comprised of one ditch with a backing bank located 20m from the cliff edge. The feature was 40m x 4m in total. The site was no longer visible in 1950 [5] and Next Perspectives photography taken in 2007 [6] showed the cliff to have eroded. A similar feature was seen 450m to the NE (MWX43517).
