Monument details

HER Number:MWX43293
Type of record:Monument
Name:Two shallow pits, Fleming Valley

Summary

Two shallow pits are visible either side of a field drain on 1940s RAF vertical aerial photographs. Their function is unclear but since they appear to be sited in relation to the field boundary it is possible that they are contemporary with the field system and are agricultural in origin. The features may have been plough-levelled as they are not visible on recent aerial photography of the area.

If you do not understand anything on this page please contact us.

Two shallow pits are visible either side of a field drain on 1940s RAF vertical aerial photographs [1]. The pits measure c.3m in diameter and they lie c.10m from the field drain. Their function is unclear but since they appear to be sited close to the field boundary it is possible that they are contemporary with the field system and are agricultural in origin. The features may have been plough-levelled as they are not visible on recent aerial photography of the area [2].

A transcription of the features recorded from aerial photography exists within a GIS layer held by this HER [3].
