WWII coastal defences including slit trenching, a banked feature, and a possible gun emplacement, located in the King George VI Memorial Park, south of Dumpton Gap and mapped from military aerial photographs.

Photographs taken in January 1941 [1] show a L-shaped slit trench and associated bank (measuring 7m in length). A pillbox is later built next to this trench (Mke39686). There is also a possible square gun emplacement located 90m to the south, measuring 6.3m by 6m and appears to have a central pintle on which a gun could be placed.

In May 1942 [2] a U-shaped bank has been constructed, probably intended as a defensive feature.

The possible gun emplacement has been removed by April 1946 [3] and by September 1948 [4] all of these features have been removed.

A transcription of the features recorded from aerial photography as part of the South East Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey exists within a GIS layer held by this HER [5]
