Second World War slit trench and associated banks surrounded by an oval barbed wire enclosure, located on the golf course at North Foreland, and mapped from military aerial photographs.

The slit trench, approximately 74m in length, extends SE from the road and is surrounded by a bank in two distinct sections. The barbed wire encloses these defensive features and forms an oval shape in plan (approximately 162m by 84m) that is truncated by a road running perpendicular from the beach at Joss Bay. This military installation would have been a defensive measure preventing the movement of foreign troops and tanks inland using this road.

The military features were mapped from an aerial photograph taken in December 1941 [1]. By April 1946 the oval barbed wire enclosure is gone and the internal features have been backfilled [2].

A transcription of the features recorded from aerial photography exists within a GIS layer held by this HER [3].
