Derelict barge (2-4). Cross Reference with TQ 97 SW 35 Seawall created using The Surprize: Registration No. COLCHESTER Precise coordinates not available, last known location of vessel reported by Society for Spritsail Barge Research. SURPRISE was built at Maldon by Howard in 1879. She was owned successively by Strutt, Howe and Burley. She is noted as derelict in 1940. She was subsequently built into the sea wall. Her remains were reported visible in 1966. Date reported derelict taken as date of loss. (1).
