During work undertaken at war damaged sites across Dover in 1945-47 a Medieval wall of large chalk blocks whose foundations cut into the Roman levels below, but which continue up until cut off by the modern basement floor. An 0.45m level of clear sand topped with pebbles lies against this wall on the
east and above it is a dump of late 12th- and 13th-century rubbish levelling up the ground until sealed by a puddled chalk floor of an early post medieval date. The finds from this dump include a Medieval counter and two fragmentary bone pins alongside residual roman pottery. (1)
