(Summarised from publication)
A Saxon structure was located directly overlying two earlier Saxon deposits, structures (N6 and N7) and the Roman building, to the north west of Market Street Dover. Little of the structural detail of the building is apparent but it consists of an extensive area of layered burnt soil and clay. A pit containing a large pottery vessel was found in association with the uppermost of these burnt layers.
These layers were largely devoid of finds and the main dating evidence came from the soils above and below them, which contained lots of residual Roman material but also some Anglo Saxon/Norman examples and some dating to the 11th to 12th centuries. (1)
