During test pitting at the site of the grand shaft entrance courtyard off Snargate Street, Dover, the remains of a post medieval brick built vaulted culvert were identified within the lower work of a brick sleeper wall recorded under the central roadway. During test pitting at the site of the grand shaft entrance courtyard off Snargate Street, the remains of a post medieval brick built vaulted culvert were identified within the lower work of a brick sleeper wall recorded under the central roadway in test pit 2. The brick sleeper wall had been largely smashed away to allow the insertion of a new concrete pipe in the 1960's/1970's. (1)
