During work associated with the A20 road and sewer scheme, Dover’s 'New Bridge', which was built in 1800, was located. Part of the earlier post medieval Three Gun Battery had been incorporated into the northern part of the bridge. The eastern parapet of New Bridge was removed in 1840 to enable widening and premises were built from Bench Street across the bridge. (1)

This bridge possibly incorporated the remains of Bungers bridge which is visible on topography map of Dover 1768/9, in the same approximate location. (2) As well as a 1737 map of Dover in which it is labelled Buggins Bridge. (3)
