A number of Medieval pits and wells were uncovered at the site of the former Fox's Bakery, near Queen Street, during investigation into a number of war damaged sites in Dover between 1945 and 1947.

Three wells and a number of medieval pits cut into the Roman levels, two wells and a pit which appear to be the earliest are sealed by levels containing 13th-century material. Another well is sealed by the foundations of late Medieval house. A wide variety of Medieval pottery is represented in the asemblage, including wares inported from France. Some examples are located in Dover Museum. (1)

Roman material including samian ware, stamped tiles, coins and glass was located within these earlier Medieval layers alongside a fairly large quantity of Medieval pottery. (2)
