Full description

If you do not understand anything on this page please contact us.

Built in AD1872 to provide power to the South Foreland lighthouse. Initially the engine powered by steam but it was converted to dynamo-electric in AD1877 when this was found to be far superior. The engine room fell out of use in the early years of C.20 when mains electricity became available. The exact date when the engine fell out of service is unknown but it appears on the OS map until the 3rd Edition. It is now a private residence. (1)
