Guilford Wharf was built on the River Stour east of Sandwich Haven in the late C.19 or early C.20. It provided an inland wharf enabling materials needed for the construction of the nearby Sandwich Bay Estate to be brought in by boat and transhipped by a mobile crane to waiting trains. The wharf does not appear on the 2nd Edition OS map and has disappeared by the publication of the 3rd Edition and thus was only active for a period of 25-30 years although archaeology may remain beneath the surface.
