Monument details

HER Number:TR 15 NE 1297
Type of record:Monument
Name:N. W. Tower, Canterbury Cathedral

Summary

The North West Tower was a remarkable survival of Lanfranc's Church, considering all the demolition and rebuilding that had happened to the Cathdral during the 13th to 15th centuries. At one stage when the nave and aisles were rebuilt, it was only the N. W. Tower that remained standing of the earlier church. Sadly however, it was rebuilt in 1832 to match the style of the S.W. Tower.
