Summary
A disused chalk pit with the lower part of a ruined lime kiln is located near Fishponds Farm. The kiln is filled in but a draw arch and brick retaining walls that seem to have held a covering roof remain. A number of chalk pits are depicted in the area on the Ordnance Survey 1st and 2nd edition maps of c.1861 to 1895. On the 4th edition map of c.1931-40 the Limekiln is noted as an 'Old Limekiln' indicating that it had gone out of use by this time.
