In 2007 Canterbury Archaeological Trust excavated four small trenches at the corner of The Parade and Mercery Lane as part of renovation works on a medieval building. A medieval floor, occupation layers and a cess pit dated to c. AD 1140-75 were found. A 20th century basement had possibly destroyed a medieval cellar. (1)
