Boating pond in NW corner of Park Road public recreation ground used in the Second World War as an emergency water supply for the fire service in the event of inadequate supply from the mains to deal with fires caused by bombing, This appears to have originated by 1941. Post war the pond was filled in and is now a tarmac space marked for car parking. (1) the pond is visible on the fourth edition OS map of the area (2)
