A 4th century temple "KI" stands to the west of the Great Foundation. The temple is of the usual type with a "cella" to contain the image of the Diety and a pertico or flight of steps in front. Two other temples of later date were discovered towards the south at the foot ofthe hill (see Illustration Card.) (1) Square temples c. 275-370 A.D. West of the great foundation, contemporary with the Saxon shore facts. Temple with pertico or stepson east. Fragments of pseudo-venus figurine confirm late 3rd century date. (2) The cult of the "Pseudo-Venus" in Kent. One example from Richborough lay in the remains of a small building resembling in its grand-plan, a temple built in the classical style. (3) Magnetometer, resistivity and magnetic susceptibitilty surveys undertaken over a 18.7ha area, at Richborough, Kent. The magnetometer survey revealed a complex pattern of settlement activity, roadways and enclosures. Ribbon development along Watling Street accounted for a greater density of readings in that area, whereas weaker responses seem to be associated with an outlying field system. The limit of the settlement was not defined, so further survey work is recommended (4).
