Summary

Large quantities of human bones and foundations of ancient buildings have reportedly been found on Clapper Hill in the past. The site is located in the Minster Marshes on an elevated area on the north bank of the Old Wantsum Channel. Subsequent visits to the site to investigate have produced no finds and no further information about the site is known.

[TR 31986378] Clapper Hill [NAT] (Ancient Foundations etc found) [NAT] (1) Applies to a hill feature situated a short distance S of the Rough. A great quantity of human bones and foundations of ancient buildings have been found there from time to time. (2) Clapper Hill is a slightly elevated field on the N bank of the Old Wantsum Channel. It was under crop at time of visit and nothing of note was seen. There is no local knowledge of the site and there is no record of anything else having been found there. (3) TR 320638. According to OS records 'a great quantity of human bones and foundations of ancient buildings have been found here from time to time'. When visited in 1963 the site was in crop, no cropmark was visible, and there was no local knowledge of the site. (4) (6)
