[TR 34465003] Roman burials found [NAT] (1) Nine feet below the surface, parts of skeletons face downwards were found with a few bits of iron. The site had the appearance of an old river bed. In December 1919, five Roman coins (C1 BC. Gallic, Divus Augustus, Gallienus. Tetricus and Constans or Caesar) were found nearly together with fragments of bronze brooches and 2 finger rings of bronze dated by the B M to "just B C'. At TR 34605008, four saucer-shaped depressions, filled with calcined flint flakes and chippings, burnt wood and earth were found 2-3 ft below ground level. The date of discovery is not recorded. The finds of 1901 and 1919 are recorded as being in Canterbury Royal Museum, but they could not be traced there. Turners pits are disused and now partly overgrown or wooded and partly under small-holdings. (2)

Three large round narrow-necked urns, 5 ft to 7ft in circumference [amphora], containing calcined bones, were found at a depth of 5ft in August, 1901, in Mr. J.E. Turner's stone pits. (4)
