A `Neolithic finds' symbol is shown over a long-disused brickearth pit in Mill Road, Deal, on a map in Deal Castle Museum. The pit, centred at TR 36705161, was formerly worked by G. Denne of Deal. This firm was unable to offer any information, and nothing further was found during fieldwork. (1) TR 36705161 The discovery is recorded in notes and a sketch belonging to a Captain Newington. The find was made in 1908 in G. Denne's brick pit on the N side of Mill Road, in the angle between it and Manor Road. Illustration cards nos 1 and 2 show the pit and associated pottery. This a rare Neolithic find from the region and indicates an occupation rather than a funerary site. The feature was probably a storage pit. The material is housed in Deal Castle Museum.
