(TR 36964613) Tumulus (NR) (1)

(It is possible that this is the small barrow excavated in 1872 and described as being near St Margaret's Bay and about half a mile to the south-east of the Ringwould tumuli - see TR 34 NE 1). A barrow situated in rough pasture on a ridge at a height of 240 ft OD. Very little remians but a slight circular mound, 18.0m in diameter andbarely 0.3m in height. It has been much mutilated by quarrying. (2)

Struck flints noted on the mound. (2b) (TR 36964612) Tumulus (NR) (site of) (NAT) (3)

Two ring ditches on Barrow Mount at A: TR 36884610 and B: TR 36954608.(Neither appears to relate directly to the tumulus on the 1:10000 OS Map) (4)

The barrow is now in an area of long grass and dense scrub of some nature conservation interest, and it was not possible to fully survey it during the MPPA visit. However, the barrow mound appeared to be a hummocky and uneven area mainly under scrub. The area around the barrow also contained several rabbit burrows and some World War II army training trenches. These are likely to have caused some disturbance to the barrow ditches. A wooden post has been inserted in the ground close to/on the barrow in the fairly recent past, possibly as a marker. Scrub clearance would need to be carried out before the barrow can be properly viewed.
Scheduling is not recommended. (5)
