[TQ 49825515] Roman Cinerary Urn found AD 1931 [T.I.] (1) An urn of red ware, containing partially burnt bones, and the base of a smaller pot of black ware were found at a quarry near Dry Hill Farm in Chevening parish. "Both types of pottery have been found locally on Roman sites but may well have been in use both before and after the Roman occupation". Another pot was found here in 1950. (2-3) The urn, a 2nd c. vessel of Ospringe type 698, is in Sevenoaks Museum with a card noting that it was found in January 1932 by J. Randerson, Surveyor to Sevenoaks R.D.C. at Dry Hill Quarry which is now disused. No further information was gained on the present whereabouts of the other pot. (4)
